Biography

Hailing from Portland, OR, The Thirsting offers cutting edge  Catholic music. Under the direction of Daniel Oberreuter, The Thirsting unabashedly proclaims the truths of the Catholic faith from confession, and the Eucharist, to the Trinity, and Mary, all while rivaling secular acts in energy and emotion. The mission of The Thirsting is to inspire people to love and follow Jesus Christ through the Eucharist, Mary and the Rosary, and all the teachings of the Catholic Church.

As a live touring band, The Thirsting is known for high energy shows with a powerful Catholic message.  Oberreuter is especially known for his promotion and preaching of the Rosary.  At a Thirsting concert, one is taken on a journey spiritually as a Catholic message is intermingled with a stunning rock performance. Many people are moved to greater repentance and a deeper love of Jesus and His Church. The band has played numerous diocesan youth rallies and concerts across the nation and has opened for major label acts.

The current members of The Thirsting are:

  • Mark Briksa - Drums

The band has put out two self-produced albums Companions of the Lamb (2008) and Universal Youth (2011).  Currently the band is working on a third full album release.

Hiring The Band For a Conference/Rally
Very effective for increasing the energy and draw of your conference or rally. This is especially useful for youth rallies or young adult conferences where the excitement of a live performance can significantly improve registration and attendance. The Thirsting has played events with attendants traveling up to several hundred miles.

Sets for conferences range from short 3-4 song warmups for keynote speakers to the full-length rock concert. The band can also provide relevant praise and worship  music for events  with  multiple  days/sessions. Cost is negotiated on a case by case basis, and is comparable to most professional Catholic talent. Please email

Hosting The Thirsting For a Standalone Concert
Standalone rock concerts are fully produced by Daniel Oberreuter and his team. Depending on location and travel arrangements, the band can bring all necessary equipment to host an inclusive live performance including lights, professional sound equipment, and staging. If this is not logistically feasible, the band can bring the necessary instruments and equipment to perform with sufficient backline (provided by venue).

Sets are usually one to two hours, depending on the host's accommodation. The performance includes two acts with full band, split by a mini-set performed solo by Daniel. During the show, the band makes sure to engage with the crowd as much as possible, using the same techniques for audience participation as one would expect from a major label act. Daniel also takes time during the set to speak on Catholic faith, the importance of the Rosary, and purity in an age of digital inundation. After the show, The Thirsting spends 10-20 minutes taking photos with audiences members and signing merch.

Integrity and Safety For Your Event
In the world of Catholic music, approval from the decision makers in a parish or diocese is an extremely important aspect of hiring a band. The Thirsting has received approval from dozens of dioceses and hundreds of parishes across the United States. While this reputation doesn't circumvent your diocesan approval, it simply shows that the band is fully capable of passing all necessary background checks and youth protection needed to ensure the safety of your church family. Daniel himself holds very rigorous standards of morality for the band, and has a zero-tolerance policy for questionable behavior (a rarity in the world of professional musicians).
